First Reconciliation/ First Eucharist/ Confirmation
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION:
- Your child’s spiritual journey began at Baptism when your son or daughter became a child of God and member of the Catholic faith community. At baptism, we begin our initiation into the Catholic Church and we receive the Holy Spirit.
- The next step along the journey is First Reconciliation before the reception of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
- As Christian parents you wanted your child to know about God’s love for them, you taught them to pray and brought them to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, thus they were further initiated and able to participate more fully in the Catholic Faith Community. Through the Eucharist, our relationship with Jesus takes on a deeper intimacy.
- The Sacrament Confirmation is the last of the sacraments of Initiation, whereby the Candidates will receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit to help them live out their lives as followers of Jesus.
At St Augustine’s and St Joseph’s Parishes, we affirm the Church’s teaching that
Parents are the prime educators in the life and faith of their children.
For the Sacrament First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation, we adopt a
parish-based, family-focused approach to the sacramental program,
acknowledging the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process.
The Parish based approach is widely used throughout Australia, as the preferred approach.
We invite Parent/s or Carer/s to journey with their child as they grow with God. It is the family’s daily living and situations, that confirm and action what is taught during the sacramental program.
We strive for a family centred sacramental journey with the parish, school and catechist supporting the child to grow with God/Jesus.
To ensure the continual spiritual growth of the child, the family should involve themselves in the sacramental life of the Parish.
